Fear 2023

“There is no fear in love,

but perfect love casts

out fear. For fear has to

do with punishment,

and whoever fears has

not been perfected in

love.” –1 John 4:18

Viewpoint: Fear is an undercurrent of life in Saudi society. Even as Saudi Arabia opens up culturally, fear of shame or punishment influences many people’s actions. “What will my family think?” or “What will the authorities do?” are serious questions that guide decision-making. Fear plays a significant role in spiritual life as well. In a religious system based on works, people may act out of fear of God’s punishment rather than a heart desire to obey Him. And in a society where all Saudis are considered Muslim by birth, and apostasy can be punished by death, fear hinders many Saudis from hearing or regarding the Gospel. Fear of shame or punishment may keep Saudis from interacting with believers, reading the Bible, or questioning Islam.

Prayer points: Pray that God will release Saudis from fear and give them the freedom to hear the Gospel, consider its Truth, and receive life in Jesus. Ask that Saudi followers of Jesus will experience the peace of God as they follow Him.
